Lynth Update #10

After some discussion about our layout and environment, it was determined that the environment we had previously was unusable so I wound up taking a few days to remake the forest and canyon environment. Nothing too crazy but hopefully it’ll be enough to get us by and will work better than what we had before once it has foliage and set dressing. Environments are definitely not my strong point so fingers crossed. It still needs some separate mountains in the background but I’m told someone else is working on those so hopefully we will be able to get all of this gathered together soon.

In the meantime I have also been in the process of setting up a 3d blockout pass for each shot with minor character movements and cameras with another teammate. Thus far it’s been going fairly well. We are hoping to have a fully timed and stepped out block pass by February 17th so that we can get that over to the sound team. So far there has not been a lot of blockout help so we will see how easily we can accomplish this. There will probably be plenty of very late nights in the near future. I’m very excited to finally be animating characters, I’ve been waiting for this for a while. I’m also very excited to start working with the rigged version of the character model I sculpted. It’ll be cool to see it in action. The person rigging it told me the topology is very clean and easy to work with which I’m happy about. It was definitely a difficult and complex character model to try to retopologize with my amount of experience but at least it seems to be functional.

A teammate and I have also been working on setting us up to enter our short film into some film festivals this year. In particular there’s a new local one that we would like to try for that takes place in mid April. In order to hit these deadlines we plan to attempt to have our film in a presentable and viewable state by mid march. We could get away with the end of March but we are aiming for mid March in case anything goes wrong(which I’m sure it will) or we miss the agreed upon deadline.

We are already once again having commitment issues from certain party members but I expected no less and have been planning for it, so with luck it shouldn’t set the overall team back much if at all.
